MESSAGE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 18TH JANUARY 2021
Our God is truly a jealous God who does not share His glory with any other god or being (Isaiah 42:8). Today’s passage shows how He detests the sin of idol worship among His people (Israel). Anyone who leads God’s people astray and entices them to worship other gods was to be destroyed completely. It begins with stoning the false prophet to death (v.5). Then the friends and relatives however close and dear they may be (v.6).
It goes on to an entire town, “Both its people and its livestock”! (v.15). This is an indication and a warning to us that sin, in any form or shade, must be dealt with and completely eradicated from our lives. Thank God for the grace that gives us the opportunity to confess and forsake our sins in order to receive His forgiveness (1 John 1:9). We like to think of God only as the God of love and mercy.
We must never lose sight of His holiness and justice. Sin of any sort is totally unacceptable to Him. From Genesis to Revelation, God punishes sin. Are you in the practice of worshipping any modern-day god or leading other people astray by your actions and inactions? Remember, Heaven is real and so is Hell.

• For Reflection: The real question is not why this Holy God sends anyone to Hell but why He allows anyone in Heaven!
Closing Prayer
• Lord Jesus, please teach me to love sinners and hate sin like you do. • Thank God for His love in preserving His church in the face of intense persecution in parts of the world such as Northern Nigeria and many Islamic nations.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Deuteronomy 7:15 – And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.
